You know all about auto insurance, but did you know that you can insure just about any other vehicle as well? If you own a vehicle—any vehicle—there’s an insurer that will cover it. This includes boats, personal watercrafts, off-road vehicles, RVs, travel trailers and any other recreational vehicle you own.a bus driving down a dirt road

Why is it important to insure your motorboat or 5th wheel? Just like with cars, recreational vehicles can be involved in collisions and can fall victim to nature’s worst storms. These damages, or the damage you cause to third parties, can be costly to fix. You can think of this insurance as a form of auto insurance, given that it covers many of the same events, but with features that are customized to the type of vehicle you own.

For instance, if your boat is involved in a collision, you’ll need a wreck removal service to come fish the damaged vessel(s) out of the water. Depending on your policy, specialized boat insurance can cover these expenses. Similarly, you may have a transport trailer for your boat or ATV that can undergo damages as well. Some policies offer coverage for trailers on which you transport your recreational vehicles. Policies typically include property and liability coverage, but come with many other options including, but not limited to, collision, comprehensive, uninsured motorist, wreck removal, towing and assistance, transport trailer and pollution liability.

Because of the nature of recreational vehicles, they are generally considered to be “toys” for seasonal enjoyment. After all, you wouldn’t want to go Jet Skiing atop bitter cold waves. Many people even tuck away RVs until the weather is more forgiving. For this reason, many policies come with flexible options for year-round coverage according to your needs. Frequent vacationers may want full coverage in force all year, while seasonal boaters may want less coverage during winter and full coverage during the peak boating season. Either way, you never want to go completely uncovered. Ask you agent about your options today!
